Braille

I want to feel for you.

I want to feel for you.

Words & what we choose to remember of them carry us through the darkest nights.
Each day we are born & we die anew by the words that we carry with us. Life is too dark without someone to share it with.

Tell me a story. Show me something real.

I want to understand that look in your eyes. Everything has a history behind it, a reason for being. Even mistakes happen for a reason.

Time is not an issue or a question, it is an accessory. We will simply wear it to highlight our decisions & the life that we have chosen, instead of letting it wear us down. So take your time & some of mine.

I want to laugh with you. I need something I can connect with, bond with.

I want to be able to close my eyes and feel my way around you like braille.

I want to feel for you.

NOTE:
The first half was originally written on April 24th, 2012 as part two of something else that I had written that day, but I didn’t think it was strong enough to post.

After reworking it, it feels more succinct & honest. Sometimes patience is the key. Everything happens for a reason.

Enjoy!

Now & Then

How can you stay away from something that makes you feel so good?

She doesn’t like to think of me when I’m gone.
She doesn’t like to wait for the next time.
She doesn’t see the point in living for tomorrow.
She’s all about the here & now, so don’t make any plans.

I wouldn’t take your calls, so here you are.
Before me there was no exception to the rules.
The past was the past, leave it where it lay.
But tonight you’re chasing after something.
You can’t run from what you couldn’t see coming.
She’s done looking for excuses.
She’s lost in the heat of it all.

He won’t pick up the phone anymore.
He won’t trade secrets for affections tonight.
He won’t go out of his way for something that’s uncertain.
He’s all about keeping it simple, less is more.

How can you stay away from something that makes you feel so good?
You were out of touch, lost in the world while it was rush hour in your head.
You can’t find a reason for anything when you’re lost in translation.
Some time apart broke your heart in ways that you can’t even begin to explain.
Your eyes say all the things that this sea of words seems to drown out.
How do you put out a fire that you didn’t start?
He can’t play it cool anymore.
He’s about to give in to the heat of it all.

No one wants to feel alone when you’re so close.
Some call that desperation, I call it yearning.
I can’t ignore you & I can’t miss you when you’re this close.
It brings me to my knees like a prayer.
You keep on moving from the back of my mind to the front of the line.
You parked yourself beside me & left your worries blowing in the traffic.
If you wanna keep calm, carry on starring at me.
I’d rather swim in the wonder I see behind your eyes.
I can never look away for too long, that’s why I feel the way I do.
It’s been too long & I could use someone like you.
Let’s keep it real until we’re ready to dream together.
Tomorrow’s in your hands & the past is safe in mine.

Eden

We didn’t get lost in the garden, we got lost in ourselves.

What if I told you that Eden never ends.
This is just another beginning.
We’ve done this before, we just forgot how we got here.
Think about it.

This is the new me & the new you standing before a reflection of who we were.
The times have changed, but the landscape is still exactly the same.
We’ve found paradise, because we never left at all.
Eden never changed, it was us.
We climbed too far, too fast & we fell harder than we thought possible.
We thought, we hungered for things that were beyond out reach.
Our lust for life is as limitless as the stars that blanket us at night.
Hope is found in the darkness & we’ve seen plenty of that.
But our love for each other is so bottomless & never-ending that we don’t know how to live without one another.
Your existence gives me hope.

I need you to understand.

I don’t think you grasp what I just said.
I need you so that I can understand what lies before me.
I know where we’ve been, but I need you to guide me with more than these eyes have seen.
We didn’t get lost in the garden, we got lost in ourselves.
So let me help you grow into something beautiful.
And then we can find hope in each other.
And we can begin anew.

Faded Father

“In Your Shadow I Can Shine” by Paperdol

I never knew you & not sure if I want to.
Learning about you just might change everything.
But that’s not my fear, it’s “what if nothing changes at all?”
I can face my fears, but I’m done with disappointment.
Let downs are like put downs, it’s just that you’re not around to actually deliver the blows.
What little I know of you might just be fiction.
Memories fade & restoring them takes so much out of me.
I’m nothing like you & yet I’m stuck in your skin.
You made me, aren’t you proud?
No, I’m my own creation.
You had little to nothing to do with who I am now.
Some dreams are right & some dreams are so wrong.
Four out of twenty seven isn’t enough to dilute or dissuade me.
I used to wonder about nature versus nurture everytime I looked at my reflection.
I no longer do those things.
My mind & my DNA have changed without exposure to your ways.
I’ve built up an immunity to your shadow & the way it hangs over me.
It all comes down to who I want to be, I can see that clearly now.
I am not you, I am me.

Called It

Don't leave me hanging.

Don’t leave me hanging.

I didn’t call you cus I got caught up.
You didn’t come around just as expected.
Dates rearrange & promises fall through.
It’s nothing new to someone & everything to a few.
It’s no fault of our own when we can’t come through it seems.

Call it a convenience whenever we’re in the mood.
Love lasts for now, tomorrow’s another question.
Don’t ask me for answers because they elude me just like you.
I’ve stopped caring, it was bound to happen eventually.
That ringing in your ear isn’t coming from me.
I’m not calling your name.

What we are is wasting away.
It’s about time one of us walked away.
Give it up & give in.
Or go on pretending everything’s the same.
The chase is tiring.
Give it up & give in.
Or go on & quit back peddling.

Give it up or go on.
But don’t leave me hanging.
Hang up your dreams & try your call again.
It’s no longer your call, a decision’s been made.
I had a moment of silence for what never was.
Give it up & go on, as though yesterday was just a fever dream.
