WTF: Free Coffee with Every Robbery

A Tennessee man didn’t get the cash he was after when he walked into a Huntsville, Alabama, Starbucks with the intention of robbing it, but he didn’t leave empty-handed either.

Police say that Sunday’s bizarre robbery attempt went down at 7:30 AM when Phillip Sawdey walked into the Starbucks.

Sawdey demanded money from the barista behind the counter. His plan to grab the cash and run were screwed up when the barista informed him that she was unable to open the cash register (other reports say that she refused to open the register) & instead offered him “a cup of coffee” instead.

Sawdey took his quick defeat well & took her up on the offer, accepting the beverage before leaving the store. He was caught by police in the parking lot & arrested for robbery without incident and booked into the Madison County Jail.

Coffee isn’t the only item some robbers have accepted in lieu of cash. One man allegedly accepted weed instead of money during a robbery attempt in 2011, according to the Corpus Christi Caller Times. And a worker at a Whataburger in Tulsa, Oklahoma, thwarted a machete-wielding robber by offering him fries, according to a 2010 report from the Tulsa World.

I have just ONE question, is Starbucks’ coffee that good (and expensive)?
I hope that was the best damn coffee he’s EVER had in his life, that’s all I’m saying.

WTF: A Whole New Meaning to “Stealing Verses”

It was 50 Cent who once said, “If my record don’t sell, I’mma rob and steal.”

These crooks robbed before their record even released.

Maryland cops are searching for a pair of wannabe rappers who robbed a recording studio just minutes after they finished laying down a track there, according to NBC Washington. At about 1 a.m. on Thursday, the unidentified thieves recorded a song called “Larry Hoover”, apparently dedicated to famous Chicago gangster King Larry, at Copy Catz in Laurel.

After they finished, they left for a few minutes — but came back with guns. They demanded that everyone sit down and started taking valuables.

They made off with an undisclosed amount of items and cash from the studio, and Copy Catz didn’t return calls for comment by press time. Investigators’ only piece of evidence is the song itself.

“What we’re looking for is the voice recognition,” Laurel police spokesman Pete Piringer told the station. “Maybe someone will recognize their voices or know this tune or know who these fellas are.”

It’s important to note that the video clip below not only has a taste of the song, but a clip by NBC Washington’s Pat Collins, who, as DCist points out, is just plain awesome:

WTF: Screw You Robber!

Man payback is a bitch, again & again. This story is actually from 2009, but for some reason its been circulating around the net again with the suspects names.

So let me get this straight, she eventually let him go, telling him: “Get out of my sight.”

Viktor first went to the hospital to treat his swollen testicles and then to the police where he explained he had been held hostage in a back room at the hairdressers, chained up naked with pink fluffy handcuffs to a radiator – and fed nothing but Viagra.

When police arrived to question Olga, she said: “What a bastard. Yes, we had sex a couple of times. But I bought him new jeans, gave him food and even gave him 1,000 roubles (around 30 GBP) when he left.”

He certainly got a better deal than most robbers would, but RAPE is still wrong, very very wrong.

This story seems to speak to a certain sense of “female empowerment”. Olga now has her own fan page on Facebook with almost 2000 likes. People are exulting on her wall with such posts as: “Olga, you are my hero!” and “Power!!”

I’m all for standing up for yourself & protecting yourself, but I’m still left scratching my head. What Olga did is no better than Viktor’s (attempted & failed) actions.

I’m just wondering, why was sex used as a weapon in this scenario?
